In the wake of increasing energy costs, biomass energy production sprout out as an alternative to diesel/MFO, to burn organic by-products like empty fruit brunch (EFB), masocarp, husk, fiber etc. These by-products normally consist of scum, trace of oil, fatty acid, rosin and mineral. Upon combustion, these elements will melt, vaporize and condense in low temperature zones like roof tubes, dust collectors and boiler stacks to form adhesive paste. The ash particles generated during the combustion will stick, compound and eventually pollute the surrounding upper furnace area. In more severe cases, the ash particles block the air passage.
These adhesive would later harden and make removal difficult. Corrosion and erosion would result as these deposits are highly corrosive to any metal surface that they come into contact with. Cleaning is extremely difficult, costly and thus must be avoided.
